This is a hard question, because the answer depends on who you ask. But I will give you my opinion and then it’s up to you to decide yourself.
I started off with a steel stringed acoustic guitar. The negative thing with a steel string guitar is that the strings are harder and makes your fingers pain in the beginning. Personally I think it’s worth it because you will need the hardning on your finger tips anyway and it might take maximum two weeks to build up the hardning that makes you forget the previous problem.
A lot of people argue that electric guitars are easier to play. The reason electric guitars can feel easier to play is that the strings are softer and easier to “push down” to make a good sound.
Even if the electrical guitar has “easier strings” I personally think that acoustic guitars are easier for learning the basic guitar playing. With an acoustic guitar you don’t have all the fancy effects from an amplifier which makes you forget to really learn how to play guitar. Without all the effects you can focus on learning the basic chords and controlling your fingers. Because one of the hardest thing for a beginner is to controll your fingers, you need to move them in completely new directions than you have done before
